The Mexican Revolution lasted about a decade and had many power struggles, adopting different political systems. The Revolution was harsh for everyone, expect the leaders. For example when General Diaz became a Dictator, farmers were run out of their property, land was distributed unfairly, and Mexico then took more interest in industrialization then farming leading to a food shortage. Peonage is similar to slavery and became well known in Mexico. When General Diaz dictated the country farmers, peasants, and other lower class members were taken as Peons. Peons have no rights, they are in servitude to their creditors until their debt is paid off. They are forced to work in horrible conditions with little food, abused and beaten, all to repay their debt. Peonage was used to build industrial building and factories, to plant, tend, and harvest fields, and even to tend to everyday work.
